Automobile Gas Prices Fall Again In California

In October we talked about how the gas prices in California were continuing to drop and become affordable for drivers in Southern California. Almost two months later and gas prices continue to drop. In late October it was $3.86 a gallon, but today it stands at $3.62 for the national average in the state. That’s down 23 cents from a month ago.

A story from Northern California in the Walnut Creek Patch interviewed a AAA spokesman who had this to say. ““Prices at the pump have steadily declined across the country as demand continues to be low and supplies remain robust,” reports Cynthia Harris, AAA Northern California spokesperson. “The exception is the East Coast where supplies are increasing but remain somewhat tight following the disruption in distribution from Hurricane Sandy.”

National trends point to gas prices going up in the spring and summer, and as the past has dictated, the average price should be near $4.00 a gallon by summer. It’s nice to take advantage of it now, although CSAA officials say they expect demand to remain low in 2013, keeping gas prices at a more affordable level. In Southern California, there could be a difference. We’ll continue to keep an eye on how it changes.

Here’s a look at the average price over the last four years. Gasoline ($/Gal)

2012 – $3.65

2011 – $3.56

2010 – $2.78

2009 – $2.35
