Carpooling Safety Tips

It is that time of the ear where you start the back to school shopping. Then you start the shopping for the back to school party you will throw for yourself as a parent. Congratulations, you have made it through another summer and you have earned some R and R until the sports and club schedules start up again. Before you start throwing the party take a few minutes to make sure your car is carpool ready for the upcoming school year. Here are some of the top tips on how to make sure you do just that.

Routine Maintenance updated- take your vehicle in to get the regular maintenance it needs so it will be road ready. When you are carpooling your vehicle will be exposed to faster accelerations, more frequent stops and more frequent use than it is used to. Oil changes and belt checks should be on top of the list to be checked among others.

Proper Restraints- Make sure you are properly securing yourself and your passengers into the vehicle. If need be, stop by your local police department to make sure your car seats and booster seats are being used properly. Also if you are using your seatbelt properly you will be setting the example for the little ones in your car.

Wipers and Tires- make sure your vehicles’ equipment is properly working. If you are stuck in heavy downpours you will want to make sure your wipers are wiping fast enough and your tires can stop you fast enough.

Obey Traffic Laws- this goes beyond just carpooling, you should obey the traffic laws at all times. But now is the time to make sure you are driving safely and within the limits of a school zone.
