Does My Car Have Axle Issues?

Does your car have major axle issues? When axles don’t work, cars don’t run. Specifically, if your axle isn’t functioning at all then your tires won’t move! That said, there could be something wrong with your axle but it isn’t totally broken– just headed in that direction…

So what are some signs you might have a failing axle on your vehicle?

Vibration Around the Wheel

If you notice a rumble or vibration focused around a particular wheel, especially when you’re accelerating or rounding a corner, you might have an axle problem. If the vehicle shakes or wobbles on “that one corner of the car or truck,” that’s a sign you should see a mechanic soon. If you don’t, expect the vibration/rumbling to get stronger, increasing every time you drive.

Clunking Noises

What about noises? If the axle is damaged you might hear a grinding or “clunking” noise as your engine attempts to get the axle to move properly.

Oil Leaks

Look for oil or grease leaks. Specifically, if you see oil leaking down inside one of your tires, there could be axle damage nearby. What’s more, if you notice leaking grease, the axle boot might have some damage.

Starting Issues

Finally, as mentioned before, if the car or truck won’t move at all, then there could definitely be an axle problem. You start it up and rev it but it won’t move? Could be the axle.

Common Causes

What are some things that cause axle issues? Driving over/through potholes, accidents, poorly made parts/metal failure, and CV joint failure are all causes of axle problems.

Can you drive a vehicle with axle damage? Technically yes, but ideally no. For safety’s sake, have the vehicle towed to a mechanic. In Lancaster, California, AV Bumper to Bumper handles axle issues. Call 661-949-1999 or email fbumper11@aol.com for info.
